Where did Rolfing® originate?

Rolfing® – auch Strukturelle Integration genannt – geht auf Dr. Ida P. Rolf zurück.

Rolfing® – also known as Structural Integration – was developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf.

As a pioneer, she recognised early on the importance of gravity as an organising force for the human body. She regarded body structure, posture, movement coordination, spatial awareness, and human expression as interconnected aspects of a unified whole.

Through the structural alignment and organisation of the body, gravity is understood not merely as a burden, but as a force that helps the body achieve better balance and come into proper alignment.

Dr. Ida P. Rolf shared her knowledge and method internationally and taught, among other places, at the Esalen Institute in California. In the 1970s, she founded the Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colorado. Her approach continues to be practised and taught worldwide. Today, Rolfing® is taught internationally, and people from many countries train in this method.
